OMRON to Invest in Taiwan’s Collaborative Robot Company Techman Robot Inc.

Techman Robot, the world’s leading manufacturer of collaborative arm robots, announced further collaboration with Omron Corp. Due to the potential development of Techman Robot in the global automation market, Omron will invest and acquire an approximately 10% stake in Techman Robot. The investment expects to be completed by December 2021.

Techman Robot will work together with Omron, a business partner since 2018, to develop robot technology and open up new markets. This investment will strengthen our robot business—the driving force behind the growth of our industrial automation business—and help us realize innovative manufacturing sites where people and machines work together more collaboratively.

Omron entered into a strategic alliance with Techman Robot in 2018 to meet existing automation needs due to labor shortages. Under this alliance, TM collaborative robot is sold globally through the OMRON sales network under both companies’ brand names.

Through this investment, the two companies will jointly develop innovative robot solutions that combine OMRON’s factory automation machinery with TM collaborative robot. This will advance us further toward our goal of creating innovative manufacturing sites where people and machines work together.

Dr. Shi-Chi Ho, the chairman of Techman Robot said” Techman Robot has penetrated the global market and successfully become the world’s second-largest collaborative robot company since 2018. Under the alliance, Techman collaborative Robot has enhanced the reputation all over the world with Omron, which helps achieve our company’s mission of improving the lives of humans through innovation. We aim to close the gap for every business and create smart factory solutions for human-machine collaboration. We are delighted to deepen our longstanding relationship with Omron through this collaboration, which is a significant opportunity for both companies, addressing the fast-growing gap in the market for the demanding need for smart manufacturing. We believe our partnership will open new innovative doors into the future. OMRON & Techman Robot will together deliver a highly flexible and scalable collaborative robot solution, assisting customers to easily and fully integrate collaborative robotics into smart manufacturing.”

Junta Tsujinaga, Company President of Industrial Automation Business Company, commented on the strengthening of the OMRON-Techman Robot alliance as follows. “In 2018, we added TM collaborative robots to our product lineup. The strengthening our alliance with Techman Robot at this time further pushes the evolution of collaboration between people and robots in manufacturing.

Techman Robot to Provide Free AI Courses in Southeast Asia

To tackle the challenges brought by the COVID-19 pandemic, the manufacturing industry really has to step up and transform by adopting more standardized, automated and intelligent solutions. Artificial intelligence, AI is undoubtedly the key technology here. That is why the SEA (Southeast Asia) Taiwan AI College is turning the AI manufacturing experiences from leading ICT companies, Techman Robot, into free-of-charge online courses. It will not only train important AI talents in the academia and industry in Southeast Asia, but also help with the digital transformation needs of Taiwanese companies there.

Kick Off the AI Course with the World’s Second Largest Collaborative Robot Company: Experience the Use of AI and Robots

AI-enabled collaborative robots play an important role in making AI solutions more widespread in the world. Techman Robot, which is going to start its classes in July, not only is the second largest collaborative robot brand in the world, but also blazes a trail in combining AI vision with built-in machine vision in manufacturing.

TM AI + is the industry’s first integration of traditional machine and advanced AI vision in a single robotic system. Without the need of additional controllers, time and money required in past integration have been considerably reduced. The built-in machine vision of Robots integrates with light, industrial cameras and sensing elements to capture images. The deep learning technology of AI is also combined in order to accurately sense the shape, type and color of an object as a means to further enhance the inspection efficiency and difficulty in automated production, improving the quality inspection and accuracy in different industries.

In its 11-hour free English online course, Techman Robot will lead the students to explore the basic functions and applications of AI, and help them get to know the two major functions of AI: classification and detection. The course is nothing short of plenty of hands-on practices. Students will be instructed to gather their own samples through the Techman Robot’s TM AI+ platform and create an AI training project, and use it to execute an AI prediction at the end of the lectures.

Techman Robot Successfully Enters the Supply Chain of Major European and Japanese Car Manufacturers

Compared to other industries, the level of automation in the automotive industry is much higher. Collaborative robots that can be flexibly applied to a small-volume large-variety production line, focus on human-robot collaboration and facilitate smart manufacturing are emerging. The latest report of Kenneth Research predicts that the shipment and sales revenue brought by collaborative robots in the automotive industry will increase by 43% every year by 2022.

The well-known Japanese car manufacturer adopts Techman Robot to process the final quality check of all detailed assembly inspections. Techman Robot helped the customer to install the “next-generation smart inspection system” utilizing a customized stand including‍ four Techman collaborative robots. Besides the built-in smart vision, 36 external front and rear cameras were also installed. Moreover, each collaborative robot is equipped with three types of lenses, including short, middle and long. The Japanese car manufacturer mentioned that among their global production lines, this is the only one using the automated optical inspection (AOI) system and AI smart inspection solution. The ceiling-mounted arm can move inside/outside the car elastically to execute all of the quality-checking items.

Since the quality inspection focus on components and items on a very detailed level, standard robotic vision might not be enough to point out all of the defects. That’s where TM AI+, Techman Robot’s own developed AI function, comes in handy. Massive sample pictures of the goods are gathered, and fed into TM AI+ training server to generate a deep-learning model which is capable of identifying all of the defects or incorrect components. The model will be imported into the robot arms and combined with robot vision to perform quality checking on items such as checking the color of the logo, the plastic film of the wheel, the type of the dashboard, or even the texture of the seats.

The leading Japanese car manufacturer commented that TMflow, the innovative and user-friendly interface of Techman Robot, allows the well-trained insider to quickly program based on different car types or demands without asking the system integrator to come to the factory, and thus achieves a significant reduction of time, manpower and cost. Meanwhile, the built-in smart vision allows the customer to record all inspection data more efficiently to improve quality and implement data archiving and traceability which cannot be realized by manual inspection.

Since 2018, Techman Robot has become an officially approved supplier of “Continental,” another world-famous manufacturer in the automotive industry, and started to improve the automated process in its signature factory located in Budapest, Hungary. This factory mainly produces telematics control units (TCU) for car manufacturers. Techman Robot not only optimized the pick and place application but also enabled the customer to save the cost of installing a third-party camera with built-in smart vision. Moreover, the customer could also swiftly copy the program to different stations through “TM Landmark” to significantly reduce the time of training a collaborative robot to recognize the position and object. The “Plug and Play” gripper can run tests quickly to reflect the project’s performance in time. Techman robot, with the built-in smart vision, is the best choice to meet the smart manufacturing demand of highly flexible production in the automotive industry.
